THERE IS NEW BUTCHER ON THE BLOCK IN SE5

THERE IS NEW BUTCHER ON THE BLOCK IN SE5

That's right. Our spanking brand new counter over at Gladwell's Deli & Grocery is open for business and Camberwell now has the local butcher it has long been waiting for.

For those who are unfamiliar with the site, Gladwell’s is a deli and grocery store founded on the principle of championing small-scale producers and high quality produce, very much matching the ethos that we pursue at T&G.

The Gladwells story itself began during the pandemic when co-founder James Dye temporarily converted his restaurant, Camberwell Arms, into a deli to sell produce from the independent suppliers they worked with in the restaurant. Seeing how much people enjoyed restaurant quality produce at home inspired James, and old friends Stanley Allen and Phil Larkin, to open Gladwell's in 2022.

Since then, they have been carving out quite a niche for the local food community, loading up the shelves and fridges with impressive and high quality produce. Whether it’s delicious wine from St John, traditional cheese from Mon’s, specialty coffee from Monmouth or freshly baked bread from Sally Clarke.

As is right and proper with all these things, we kicked off proceedings with an informal party last Thursday, before officially opening on Friday 1st March. And before a cork was merrily popped in celebration, Jakob cut a handsome piece of Galician rib eye for our very first customer.

Which is a good sign!

The counter will be open from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 7pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm, so if you live in the area, please do drop by.

You can find the store at 2 Camberwell Church St, London SE5 8QU.

In other news, Easter is not too far off now and we have got some fantastic new season lambs coming in. We shall also be bolstering our BBQ range before the season gets fully into gear. Chef and the team are in full R&D mode right now (yes, it's a tough life) so keep an eye on further developments.

Last but certainly not least, don't forget that it is Mother's Day this Sunday and we've got the perfect relaxing remedy for Mum - all centered around the blissful joy that is breakfast in bed.

With fizz from St John Wines and a bottle of Turner & Hardy's tomato juice, should Dad be in need of a Virgin Mary whilst preparing said fry-up (wink).

Take care and have a good one!
