After a few successful evenings of guerrilla-style BBQs outside the shop (and only the occasional raised eyebrow from passing commuters), we decided it was time for an upgrade.
So, we've teamed up with our brilliant neighbours at The Corkman.
If you haven't discovered them yet, they're an independent wine merchant just around the corner from Turner & George, with an expertly curated selection of wines from around the world and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere for exploring something new. Best of all, tucked away behind the shop is a fantastic outdoor courtyard that gives us everything we've been missing – space to cook properly, room to pour exceptional wines, and somewhere comfortable for everyone to settle in and enjoy the evening. Yes... we even have benches now.
We genuinely hope this is the first of many collaborations together.

A Different Kind of Tasting Evening
These evenings have always been about more than simply eating steak and drinking wine. They're thoroughly informal, thoroughly delicious, and just the right mix of educational, entertaining and very slightly boozy.
You'll get the chance to taste a range of exceptional cuts from Turner & George while discovering why different breeds, ages and cuts behave so differently over fire. Alongside them, Stephen from The Corkman will be pouring a carefully selected range of wines that go well beyond the obvious. Think you know exactly what belongs in your glass with a ribeye? Think again.
There'll be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, compare notes with fellow food lovers and generally spend a Wednesday evening exactly as it should be spent.

Meet the Team
One of the best parts of these evenings is that they're hosted by the people who spend every day obsessing over meat.
James will be talking guests through the cuts, explaining what makes them special and showing off a few butchery techniques along the way. If you've ever wanted to ask a butcher why one steak costs twice as much as another, or what actually makes dry-ageing worthwhile, now's your chance.
Meanwhile, Jakob will be firmly stationed over the grill, making sure every piece of beef and pork is cooked exactly as it should be. There'll be no complicated chef tricks here – just exceptional meat, charcoal, fire and decades of butchery knowledge.
Dan, meanwhile, has arguably one of the most important jobs of the evening. He'll be making sure everyone gets a steady supply of freshly grilled morsels while also ensuring there's no shortage of napkins. Trust us... you'll need them.
Between the three of them, expect plenty of stories, plenty of laughs and the occasional debate over the "correct" way to cook a steak.

Meat. Wine. Good Company.
This isn't a formal tasting. Nobody's expecting you to swirl your glass for five minutes before taking a sip.
It's about enjoying fantastic produce in great company, learning something new, asking plenty of questions and discovering combinations you probably wouldn't have ordered yourself.
Running from 7:15pm until 9:00pm, it's the perfect excuse to escape the midweek routine, gather a few mates and spend an evening surrounded by brilliant meat, outstanding wines and like-minded people.
We can't wait to welcome you to our first evening with The Corkman - and, with a bit of luck, the first of many.
Places are limited, so we'd recommend booking early.
